ESPN's updated top 5 rankings feature 2 SEC squads

The two teams in front of the Tigers (Alabama and Miami) lost, which should open up spots for Clemson to move up in the latest College Football Playoff rankings.

There were moments this season where the Tide looked like they couldn't be beaten, taking down their first eleven opponents by an average margin of 31.2 points per game. That can be overcome, as Ohio State proved last season, but Alabama has given the selection committee reason to call its schedule strength into question.

Ohio State has handled their own business in the quest for the postseason. Auburn will be ranked among the top four this week and a win will make them the first two-loss playoff team. We would not be surprised if the Playoff rankings released on Tuesday shared a similar first four of Clemson, Oklahoma, Wisconsin and Auburn in some order. They can't win the SEC. However, with the pair of teams losing this weekend, it has made things much less clear.

The Badgers are the last Power 5 team standing with an unbeaten record, and all it takes a win against Ohio State to clinch a playoff berth.

The teams that need help. Here are the biggest winners and losers. They will also make the playoff if they win the Big Ten.

The ACC Championship is a little more interesting, as Clemson (11-1) faces off against Miami (11-1).

While the winners of the ACC and SEC Championship Games appear to be locks to earn a spot in the College Football Playoff, Alabama can still earn one of the two remaining places with upsets of either Oklahoma, Wisconsin or both.

Remarkably, just six weeks after losing to Syracuse, Clemson is No. 1 the Week 14 rankings - and comfortably. Even though they would finish with two losses, in the committees eyes it would be more like one and a half and they could still find themselves in a playoff spot. In this scenario, where Ohio State is the victor of the Big Ten title game, the fourth and final spot would likely come down to OSU or Alabama. The Crimson Tide slipped to fifth. OU leads the way at No. 2, TCU at No. 10 and Oklahoma State at No. 18. Beating a third-ranked Wisconsin in the conference title game would give Ohio State three wins in the top 12, Alabama having no such wins.

Now Oklahoma has to beat TCU for a second time this season to stay in the top four. However, their seemingly unexplainable 55-24 loss to Iowa looms large. No. 8 Ohio State, Big Ten championship in Indianapolis.

Next week's conference championship games are the final opportunity for teams to make a good impression for the committee.
