Part of that process includes games against a team of all-stars from U Sports on December 13 and 14 and then an exhibition game against Denmark on December 15. Canada will play the United States in a preliminary-round game at New Era Stadium, home to the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League, on December 29 at 3 p.m. ET.

Two Owen Sound Attack players are Team Canada invitees.

Makar, who is now playing in the NCAA for the University of MA, was selected fourth overall by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. Also in Group A are the United States, Slovakia and Denmark.

Group B consists of Russia, Sweden, Czech Republic, Switzerland and Belarus.

Forwards Jonah Gadjovich and Nick Suzuki are among the 32 players invited to the World Junior final camp, to be held in St. Catherines next week.

Representing the Maritime Hockey League for Canada East is Francis Thibeault, a defenceman for the Campbellton Tigers, and Logan Johnston, a forward for the Edmundston Blizzard.

Dominique Ducharme returns for a third consecutive year to the Canadian bench and second straight as head coach.

Cholowski says the jump to major-junior has paid off to this point.

Johnston, along with four other players on the team, played for Canada East past year in Bonneyville, Alta., and helped the team earn a silver medal.

Last year's assistants, Tim Hunter and Kris Knoblauch, are also back.

The quarter-finals will be held January 2 and the semifinals two days later.
