Comcast targeting Sky control in Fox deal

Comcast targeting Sky control in Fox deal

CNBC has been reporting that Disney has held talks with the Rupert Murdoch-controlled media company to acquire its studio and television production assets, leaving Fox with its news and sports assets. Comcast remains interested in a deal, but Disney appears to be well out in front as a suitor.

The broadcasting giant was up just shy of 2pc in morning trading on the London Stock Exchange in response to reports that Disney is leading the chase to buy a significant slice of Fox's media empire, which would include its 39pc stake in Sky.

Sources say that Disney could make an official announcement as early as next week.

The Walt Disney Co.'s possible purchase of the entertainment assets of 21st Century Fox may result in Robert Iger staying on as Disney's chief executive, according to a report Wednesday in the Wall Street Journal. Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige certainly hopes so.

In addition to the X-Men, Fantastic Four and Deadpool franchises, included within the 20th Century Fox film division are valuable properties such as Alien, Planet of the Apes and Avatar.

Now that Johnny Storm and Company could soon to be back in the Marvel movie fold, the prospect for a new Fantastic Four film looks good again, so much that Captain America himself, Chris Evans, tweeted his own pitch for a crossover movie featuring a "Cap/Human Torch buddy comedy spin-off".

This means things like Avengers versus X-men could be brought to the movies.
