N Korea Agrees To Communicate Regularly With UN At Various Levels

PYONGYANG-A senior United Nations official and North Korea's foreign minister have held talks in Pyongyang.

The UN Undersecretary General for Political Affairs, Jeffrey Feltman, on Saturday concluded his five-day visit to North Korea, during which both parties agreed to remain in regular contact.

North Korea and the United Nations have agreed to communicate regularly.

In a speech to the U.N. General Assembly in September, Foreign Minister Ri defended his country's missile and nuclear programs as a "righteous self-defensive measure" in the face of USA hostility and nuclear threats.

In the report, the news agency also criticized the largest ever South Korea-U.S. aerial exercises, saying the U.S. had revealed its scheme to make a preemptive nuclear strike.

The UN officials responded that they will help ease tensions on the Korean Peninsula by following the UN Charter, which states the organisation's mission of maintaining worldwide peace and security, the KCNA added.

State media also said Feltman visited a Pyongyang maternity hospital and a "disease prevention" facility, but left out mention of details around his meeting with foreign ministry officials.

Six U.N. agencies, with about 50 worldwide staff, are represented in the North.

North Korea is also concerned about the effects worldwide sanctions have had on the delivery of humanitarian aid.

KCNA stated Feltman visited a children's food plant and listened to explanations regarding the "commendable transformation of the factory into a modern food and beverage production base".
