Nikki Haley Says Trump Accusers 'Should Be Heard'

"I think any woman who has felt violated or felt mistreated in any way, they have every right to speak up", Ms. Haley said on CBS's "Face the Nation".

Trump's announcement on Wednesday that the United States would recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital, and begin the process of moving its embassy there from Tel Aviv, was met with protests and violence from Palestinians.

Israel has always regarded Jerusalem as its capital, while the Palestinians claim East Jerusalem - occupied by Israel in the 1967 war - as the capital of a future Palestinian state.

The allegations against her boss were brought up after Haley applauded women in general for speaking up about sexual harassment incidents.

Haley said the USA would not tolerate lectures by countries that "lack credibility" on Israeli-Palestinian issues. But while Friday saw clashes across the West Bank in response to the president's action, the Palestinians did not mobilize large-scale protests as they have in the past in response to any change in the "status quo" surrounding Islam's third-holiest shrine, located in Jerusalem's Old City.

Asked if East Jerusalem could end up the capital of a Palestinian state, Haley said the U.S.

Donald Trump announces the USA recognises Jerusalem as Israel's capital and will move its embassy there.

Palestinians demonstrate in Jerusalem on Friday.

Thousands of pro-Palestinian protesters held noisy demonstrations in Jordan, Egypt, Iraq, Turkey, Tunisia and Iran.

Demonstrators turned out Sunday in Beirut, staging a raucous protest near the U.S. Embassy, and in Jakarta, the capital of the world's most populous Muslim-dominated country, Indonesia.

Jerusalem is of huge importance to both Israel and the Palestinians. The settlements are considered illegal under worldwide law, though Israel does not regard them as settlements but legitimate neighbourhoods. "I am able to negotiate, I am able to move the ball, I'm able to really diplomatically do what I need to, and sometimes not diplomatically do what I need to", she said.
