Stipe Miocic vs. Francis Ngannou Set For UFC 220 on January 20

UFC 220 is on the verge of getting even bigger - literally.

Ngannou's power has fired him in contention to fight champion Stipe Miocic, but his coach clearly has plans beyond MMA.

UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic has a date with destiny, and it is January 20, 2018.

The 31-year-old Ngannou laid waste to perennial heavyweight power player Alistair Overeem at UFC 218 on Dec 2, clobbering "The Demolition Man" with a left uppercut at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. His last four victories have all come in the first round, all ending within the first two minutes.

MMA Junkie first reported the potential title bout.

Now he'll face his toughest test against the division's current champion, with Miocic having been in unstoppable form over the past few years during a five-fight winning streak that's seen him run through the likes of Junior dos Santos, Overeem, Fabricio Werdum, Andrei Arlovski and Mark Hunt - all of whom he finished by strikes.

This rankings update welcomes another newcomer courtesy of UFC 218: Strawweight vet Felice Herrig took her fourth straight win, earning a split decision over previously eighth-ranked Cortney Casey-Sanchez. Last week it was announced that Daniel Cormier will defend the light heavyweight title vs. Volkan Oezdemir on the card. A victory for Miocic would break the record for consecutive title defenses by a UFC heavyweight champion, a mark that now sits at two.

Over the weekend at UFC 218, rising heavyweight star Francis Ngannou put together a highlight reel knockout over the always risky Alistair Overeem.

It's unclear which of the two title fights would serve as the UFC 220 main event.
