Northern Santa Barbara and southern San Luis Obipo counties were shrouded in a thick smoke plume from the Thomas fire Sunday, as it continued to burn to the south near Santa Barbara and Ojai.

On Sunday the fire cut power to more than 85,000 people because of damage to electrical transmission lines, officials said. It came back on at 2:30 a.m., completing the first of about a dozen outages for the night.
