Will this former Mississippi State standout return to the Major League Baseball?

"Everything feels better than when I played". Franco played his last game 25 days after his 49th birthday.

Over his 20-year career, Palmiero played for the Chicago Cubs, Texas Rangers and Baltimore Orioles and is now only one of five major leaguers to have more than 500 home runs and 3,000 hits. Only 57-year-old Nick Altrock, 58-year-old Charley O'Leary and 59-year-old Satchel Paige were older. Franco played seven games and hit.222. He'll have a hard time convincing any team to invite him to spring training.

Baltimore general manager Dan Duquette did not entirely dismiss the notion of giving Palmeiro a shot. "It's like tying your shoes".

Duquette will undoubtedly be asked about Palmeiro during the Winter Meetings, which begin in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., Dec. 10. According to Rosenthal, Palmeiro "does not sound willing to take any sort of indirect path to the majors", which you would figure would severely hamper his chances if he can't prove to big league execs that he can still hit. He was released by the Orioles, and he hasn't played in the majors since.

While Palmeiro would be thrilled to get a tryout with any team, the Orioles probably make the most sense.

He was the first major league baseball player ever suspended for steroids. The 22-year-old plays for the Class-A affiliate, but dad doesn't plan on spending any time in the minors. Another son, Patrick, played three seasons in the Chicago White Sox organization and a year ago played for the independent Atlantic League's Southern Maryland Blue Claws.

Rafael Palmeiro believes he has more to offer the game of baseball, and more to prove as well. Palmeiro went 2-for-4. But a comeback seems mighty unlikely. Palmer quickly ended his comeback.

"Maybe 12 years later, I can prove to the whole world that I didn't need anything to have a good career", Palmeiro said, via Bleacher Report.
