20th Century Fox Moves Dates of Several X-Men Films

Deadpool 2 will now open against Sony's Slender Man, which may decide to step aside, if it knows what's good for it.

It sounded like a refreshing new take on a superhero film, and a lot of people were excited to see it this year.

As for The New Mutants, the horror-mutant movie will be delayed over 10 months, with the release date moved from April to February 22, 2019. 20th Century Fox has shuffled the dates of several films, but why would the studio decide to push the release of the film back by almost a year?

Secondly, Josh Boone's highly-anticipated X-horror film, New Mutants, is getting pushed back. The long-troubled Gambit has been bumped yet again, from February 2019 to June 7, 2019.

That being said, there does seem to be a slightly simpler answer to the mystery behind the studio's motives, and it has nearly nothing to do with how great or bad the film is.

Insiders say one reason for the change is for the studio to avoid having an overlap with X-Men movies in certain overseas marketplaces, where Mutants and Deadpool 2 would have been in theaters at the same time.

The filmmaker is in negotiations with studio bosses at 20th Century Fox to build a film around Pryde, also known as Shadowcat, the youngest member of the X-Men crew, who can change her body's chemical make-up to pass through solid substances - a power known as "phasing".

And, finally, more news on Gambit: the film, which we learned this morning has no director, has been pushed back to June 7th, 2019. The latter of the two films does seem to be in a bit of trouble, with director Gore Verbinski recently reported as leaving the production. If Bob Iger wants to merge the X-Men and Fantastic Four with the MCU, I think it would be best for Fox to put their projects on hold while waiting for Marvel's new plan on how everything should be connected.
