Bryan Fuller boards Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles TV series

Based on the novels of Anne Rice, the drama centers on Lestat, a French nobleman who was turned into a vampire in 18th century New Orleans.

On the heels of leaving Starz's American Gods, Bryan Fuller has signed on to bring another beloved piece of geek property to the small screen.

Back in November 2016, rights to the characters of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles series of books had reverted back to the author who expressed her interest in turning her series into a TV show. Adapting The Vampire Chronicles for TV has been a longtime dream of Fuller's and now he has gotten his chance to it. He went on: "Almost instantly after we sold the rights last April, we knew we were working with some of the finest producers television had to offer". But for now, please help us welcome this brilliant and wildly talented force to Team Vampire Chronicles. Mother and son will executive produce alongside Anonymous Content's David Kanter and Steve Golin.

If you're a fan of Fuller's work, you know he'd likely make an ideal leader for any adaptation that aims to capture Anne Rice's gift for creating layered relationships, complicated personal histories, and visual environments that amplify the drama.

Fuller was showrunning American Gods with Michael Green until both left the second season due to purported budget cuts and creative differences. Her son Christopher Rice will be the main writer and showrunner. He is now rebooting Amazing Stories for Apple and has kept teasing a potential fourth season of Hannibal.

For those who've only dipped their fangs into Rice's supernatural writings, Lestat is the vampire played by Tom Cruise in the 1994 film adaptation of Interview With the Vampire (in which Fuller was not involved).
