Cardiff City: Ralls defends Bennett tackle on Sane

Cardiff defender Joe Bennett has apologised for injuring Manchester City star Leroy Sane with a horror tackle during Sunday's full-blooded FA Cup fourth-round tie.

Premier League leaders Man City, who will face Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final in February, continued their quest to win all four competitions this season with a straightforward 2-0 win over 10-man Cardiff.

As half-time approached, Cardiff's Joe Bennett was booked for a bad challenge on Leroy Sane when he could easily have been shown a red card, with Sane being replaced by Sergio Aguero at the break.

A prolonged absence for Sane would be a significant blow for Guardiola as he chases honours on multiple fronts.

The Manchester City boss saw his side beat Cardiff City, but was unhappy at the injury to Leroy Sane, after a awful tackle. Tomorrow we will see. "It is his ankle".

"I don't understand the (Bernardo) goal that we didn't get, but that is okay".

"Not the Man City players, all players. The only thing they can do is protect them", Guardiola, according to BBC Sport, told post-match reporters.

Cardiff manager Neil Warnock did not defend Bennett, who will now suspended for Saturday's Championship game against City's promotion rivals Leeds United.

"I can accept our disallowed goal, I don't know why but I accept".

The lack of a video assistant referee caused controversy moments later as the visitors thought they had scored a second. When there is fault, there is fault, and when it is unsafe, it is risky.

"I don't understand the goal [Bernardo] that we didn't get, but that is okay". "We have played many games and we do not have a big squad because of so many injuries and players with problems".

De Bruyne looked to be seriously injured at the time, but the Belgium global somehow recovered in time to play against Watford two days later. The second half was odd because they didn't want to attack us.

Cardiff City: Etheridge; Richards, Morrison, Ecuele Manga, Bennett; Paterson, Ralls; Grujic, Hoilett, Mendez-Laing; Zohore.
