A low-level weather warning is in place for Clare.

Showers will merge into longer spells of thundery rain, according to Met Eireann.

The warning is in place from 7pm to 11am across rural parts of the county, with the coast unlikely to be affected.

Rain will be persistent and heavy for a time in the west and southwest early tonight, with the ongoing risk of thunder and spot flooding, especially across south Munster.

"A very active frontal zone will bring heavy rain through Friday night and most of Saturday too".

Its forecast states: "A mix of clear spells and cloud overnight with light and variable winds".

"It will be chilly tomorrow with mist and fog patches lingering through the morning".

The Met Office say that the fog is expected to become "increasingly widespread" through this evening and into tomorrow morning.

"However, it will be cold with highest temperatures of just 2C to 6C".
