Destiny 2 Dev Details the Updates Heading to the Game in 2018

Bungie has announced that it is finally due to take action on the microtransaction controversy that has dogged Destiny 2 since launch, by making its Eververse loot boxes more accessible to those who are reluctant to pay real money for them. They will now feature mods with Raid-specific perks, and we are adjusting the rewards to ensure a Raid item drops from each major encounter.

Some of these changes will be rolled out for the Crimson Days event, which kicks off on February 13, and more will come in season three, when the Bright Engram will presumably refresh again.

You won't need to have purchased any of Destiny 2's expansions to access this content, granting you neat bonuses without dishing out extra dough. Additionally, the Raid vendor will now sell Leviathan and Eater of Worlds armor and weapons.

On January 30, the Masterwork system will be tweaked to also include arm, which allows for increased damage reduction while a player uses their Super.

Bungie has stated it has shifted the balance in favour of more desirable rewards such as Ghosts, Sparrows and Ships instead of repeating shaders and little else.

Adjustments to Bright Engrams and a more direct purchase options for the "D2" community. During Crimson Days, leveling up will award both a Bright Engram and a Crimson Engram, each of which is strongly weighted to drop non-duplicate rewards. Barrett says Bungie is continuing to experiment with potential XP changes, fully cognizant that people are still fired up about the leveling controversy that exploded in December.

The latter consists mostly of updates to the Crucible multiplayer modes, such as the reintroduction of 6v6 PVP. In February, Nightfall High Scores will be exposed in-game via new emblems and will unlock rewards.

There are even some plans that stretch out to autumn 2018, though these are vague bullet points for the time being and only represent a "small sample" of items Bungie is hoping to add in the future. Bungie warn the scope of the rework "could push parts or all of it out to early spring". When it comes to ranked play, the game will have two separate ranking systems for players to pursue-Valor and Glory.

Multi-emotes, extra vault space, and lots of other features that fans asked for.

"We're shifting the balance of new content in favour of activity rewards over Bright Engrams".

Game director Christopher Barrett detailed a very specific road map of upcoming features in the blog post, which also highlighted a number of points that touched upon several annoyances that numerous hardcore players had. These are the most important changes right now, and it's good to see they're coming sooner than the rest. Bungie have however, published a first blog of the year to address this particular issue.
