Fusion GPS Founder's Senate Judiciary Testimony Released

A transcript of his testimony was released by the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, Dianne Feinstein, on Tuesday, who said making it public would "set the record straight". White House allies have pursued a strategy of trying to impeach the dossier to impeach the broader case that people in the Trump camp might have conspired with the Russians who attacked the election.

In a separate tweet, Mr Trump accused Democratic senator Dianne Feinstein of being "underhanded and a disgrace" for disclosing details of a dossier of allegations about his ties to Russian Federation during the presidential campaign.

In his testimony, Simpson said Steele contacted the Federal Bureau of Investigation with concerns about Russian meddling in early July 2016.

Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley doesn't plan to release the committee's transcript from a closed-door interview with Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson in its Russian Federation probe - at least for now.

Fusion GPS Joshua Levy claimed that someone died as a result of the dossier: "Somebody's already been killed as a result of the publication of this dossier and no harm should come to anybody related to this honest work".

"I'm increasingly anxious Republicans will shut down the House intelligence committee investigation at the end of the month", congressman Adam Schiff, who is the leading Democrat on the House intelligence committee, said last month.

The publication of the infamous dossier resulted in the death of at least one person, a lawyer for opposition research firm Fusion GPS told a Senate committee a year ago.

Simpson said he didn't know whether the person was connected to the Trump campaign or a Trump company, adding that his understanding was that the source was "someone like us who chose to pick up the phone and report something".

President Trump lashed out at Sen. Sometime thereafter the FBI - I understand Chris severed his relationship with the FBI out of concern that he didn't know what was happening inside the FBI and there was a concern that the FBI was being manipulated for political ends by the Trump people and that we didn't really understand what was going on.

Fusion GPS said Grassley's office was not giving an accurate version of events.

Simpson, founder of research firm Fusion GPS, spoke to investigators with the Senate Judiciary Committee for 10 hours in August.

"Although no amount of money can ever remedy the damage that has been sustained by Mr. Cohen, we will be seeking maximum damages for the lies contained in the so-called dossier", Cohen's attorney, David Schwartz, said in a statement.

Some have speculated that Papadopoulos is the same source mentioned by Simpson, who said that he did not know if the source was in the Trump campaign or the Trump Organization.

He is referring to special counsel Robert Mueller, who is also investigating the Russian meddling.

Simpson also defended Steele, saying that the well-respected former intelligence officer "has a sterling reputation as a person who doesn't exaggerate, doesn't make things up, doesn't sell baloney".

They went to the FBI - Simpson described it as a citizen's duty: "To me, this was like, you're driving to work and you see something happen and you call 911".
