Gucci Garden, a Combination Restaurant, Museum, Shop, Opens in Florence

The luxury retailer has renovated and reopened its former museum, dedicated to all things Gucci, under a new name: Gucci Garden. Now, for 2018, nascent (ish) creative director Alessandro Michele has bought the space fully in line with his distinctive creative vision.

The restaurant sits in the Gucci Museo, located at the Palazzo della Mercanzia between the Piazza della Signoria and the Piazza di San Firenze.

Speaking about the design, a statement from Michele reads: "The garden is real, but it belongs above all to the mind, populated with plants and animals: like the snake, which slips in everywhere, and in a sense, symbolizes a perpetual beginning and a perpetual return".

Take a tour of the luxurious restaurant of Gucci. The chef is Massimo Bottura, the Modena-based proprietor of three-Michelin-starred Osteria Francescana, in 2016 named the best restaurant in the world.

On the menu are Bottura's popular pasta dishes, including Parmigiano-Reggiano tortellini, cacio e pepe and mushroom risotto. The Galleria is organized by theme rather than chronologically so vintage pieces are positioned alongside newly-designed ones. Instead of simply telling Gucci's story chronologically throughout the space, Michele and Maria Luisa Frisa merged together all of the brand's eras in a different format. Bottura said he believes he and Gucci "have a lot in common" and said he made a decision to collaborate with the brand "also thanks to my friendship with CEO Marco Bizzarri, who was a high school friend of mine".

As for the exhibition, that includes a cinema room and market-style boutique which is selling one-of-a-kind items - the flawless space for recovering from your food coma.

The Gucci Garden in Florence will be open to the public seven days a week for an entry free of €8 (app. $10), half of which will be donated to various restoration projects around the city of Florence.
