There could be rapid rises on some rivers and streams that could lead to the potential of ice jams with water covered roads, especially in low lying areas.

Parts of the county are under a flood watch and Jeff Friedland with St. Clair County Emergency Management says homeowners reported the St. Clair River started to rise rapidly with a wind shift Thursday afternoon.

The rain is expected to continue into the evening, with the possibility of another thunderstorm; some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall and additional areas of fog before midnight. "Will the river come over the banks?" The Hoosic River sometimes has ice jam problems as well.

"Rain will change to a brief period of freezing rain between 9 a.m. and noon", the weather service said.

Freidland said they have crews from two fire departments standing by and an evacuation plan in place in case it's needed.

A week after an ice blockage in the St. Clair River caused flooding throughout southeast St. Clair County, residents are being advised to take precautions again as another potential ice blockage threatens local homes, buildings and roadways.

Consequently, the National Weather Service has issued flood watches from eastern OH into northern and western Pennsylvania, New York state and New England.

Saturday's high temperature is likely to be 39 degrees, 20 degrees cooler than the high in Hartford on Friday.
