Lalu aides in jail to 'serve' him? RJD denies charge

Another party MLA Hari Shankar Yadav said that even he was willing to go to jail for his party chief if the court ordered him so.

The RJD, however, jumped to its leader's defence, insisting the presence of the two - Lakshman Mahto and Madan Yadav - was "conicidental".

Transporters/suppliers Tripurari Mohan Prasad got seven years imprisonment and Rs 10 lakh fine while Sushil Kumar Sinha was given three-and-a half years in jail and a fine of Rs 5 lakh.

Lalu Prasad Yadav also reasoned bail plea with Makar Sankranti festival that is celebrated at a large scale amongst Bihari community. Within minutes of the cops at Lower Bazar police station registering the FIR and sending a copy to the Ranchi civil court, Lakshman and Madan reached the court and surrendered. The Indian Express quoted Ranchi's DSP (City) Raj Kumar Mehta as saying. They were then sent to jail, said sources.

Earlier on December 23 past year, special CBI judge Shivpal Singh had convicted Lalu Prasad and 15 others in the fodder scam case related to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 89.27 lakh from Deoghar treasury. However, the latest revelations have drawn criticism from rival JD (U).

The punishment was handed down to 69-year-old Lalu by CBI court judge Shiv Pal Singh through videoconferencing since the RJD leader is lodged in Birsa Munda Central Jail after being convicted in the case on December 23, CBI counsel Rakesh Prasad said.

The two close aides of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, who had got into a jail in Ranchi by cooking up a case in order to serve him personally in the jail, remained traceless on Thursday hours after they were released. Lalu said Makar Sankranti was round the corner and requested for bail. "They have been, after all, sent to jail after an inquiry by the police administration and it is for the administration to say something on the matter".

This is the eighth time Lalu Prasad Yadav has gone to jail, but it is the first time authorities are throwing rulebook on him.
