Meryl Streep offered to sit on Mariah Carey's lap

Mariah Carey made a mistake on Sunday night at the Golden Globes. The singer wore a black dress as a sign of solidarity with the Time's Up equality and anti-harassment movement. 'I said "Stay there, I'll sit on your lap!"

Michelle Williams, Emma Watson, Susan Sarandon, Meryl Streep, Shailene Woodley, Amy Poehler, and Emma Stone brought with them activists for gender and racial justice, including #MeToo founder Tarana Burke and Mónica Ramírez, co-founder of Alianza Nacional de Campesinas. Clearly enjoying chatting to fellow guests, Mariah admitted she stopped to mingle during an ad break and then couldn't get back to her seat in time. "I came back, and there she was, next to Spielberg, sucking up". She laughed about knowing so much about Carell, that she spotted his wife before she even noticed the actor.

The 35-year-old singer is clutching her stomach she's so nervous and excited about the encounter.

But Meryl is no stranger to award shows and knows just how easy it is to find yourself stuck in the wrong place, as she explained to Jimmy: 'After the adverts they count down and make you drop to your seat'.

And following her motivational words, Mariah was among those praising Oprah on her message on social media, tweeting: "Congratulations @Oprah!"

For Mariah Carey, who performed the Golden Globe-nominated song "The Star" from the film of the same name, this meant taking a seat next to Steven Spielberg.

She said: "Meryl Streep caressed my face on the red carpet, so that would probably be my favourite moment of life - other than childbirth, I'm supposed to do that".

"I reached out to her to say that she stood with all the 700,000 women farm workers in solidarity for the women in our industry who were fearless enough to speak out about sexual harassment and assault".
