Padmaavat row: Karni Sena workers detained, say changing name not enough

Members of Karni Sena were detained by Mumbai police after they "gheraoed" the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) office on Friday to protest against the coming release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Padmaavat".

"We appreciate the balanced and considered approach that CBFC has taken to address this situation. When I look back at this year, it has been one of the most exciting years in my career - to be doing "Padmavati", to be a part of a film which I really believe is going to be historic and remembered, if I may say so", he said.

Prasoon Joshi, the Chairperson of Central Board of Film Certification said that the certification process of Padmavat is complete and news about 300 cuts is false.

Apart from this, changes have been ordered in the song "Ghoomar" to make the depiction "befitting" the character being portrayed. The other big modification was to change the incorrect or misleading references to historical places.

The modification includes changing the disclaimer that the movie does not claim historical accuracy and added that the movie does not subscribe to the Sati system practice.

Padmaavat row: Karni Sena workers detained, say changing name not enough

"Bhansali Productions and Viacom18 Motion Pictures, as producers, have accepted and have made all the above changes".

Jeevan Singh Solanki, a Karni Sena member, said: "We will not let the film release in the country under any circumstances".

While Padmaavat release has been banned in BJP-ruled Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh, Goa on Monday clarified that the movie could be released there.

The makers, however, are not sticking to the suggested "Padmavat" and have added another "a", making it "Padmaavat", if we go by the film's official Twitter handle. This Bollywood period drama is based on the epic 16th-century poem "Padmavat" by Malik Mohammed Jaisi.

The controversies around the film Padmaavat seems to have no stopping. The historians were astonished whether Padmini actually existed.
