Fifth-grade students at Washington Middle School celebrated and researched Martin Luther King Jr.in correlation with Monday's holiday by writing their own speeches. "I've grown up seeing all the history on his work and the wonderful things that Dr. King did". Day Celebration is focusing on this year, hence the "Be the Dream" theme for this year's event, which returns to the Chehalem Cultural Center Monday.

"On Monday, to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the BLM invites families to spend the day together enjoying America's rich public-lands heritage", Brian Steed, BLM deputy director, said in a statement.

"And help the younger generation remember Dr. King", Bonner said. Also, King expressed the hope that "my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character".

Numerous events are scheduled around MI to celebrate the birthday of slain civil rights icon the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

He said Johnson will be speaking on this at the breakfast.
