Power outage hits CES, social media mocks electronics show

The data standard will be put to use to connect several new smart devices such as self-driving cars and home appliances.

The Consumer Electronics Show, the biggest tech show in the world, hit a snag Wednesday when the lights went out in part of the Las Vegas Convention Center, leaving both techie humans and their robots in the dark.

Over the course of the four-day show, televisions, home appliances and autonomous vehicle technology are also expected to be prominent trends.

With more than 4,000 exhibitors, you'll never do more than scratch the surface of CES. One example in this regard is South Korean tech giant LG, which is expected to debut an advanced television set operated by Google Assistant, one of the leading artificial intelligence devices now in the market; in fact, quite a few other tech firms plan to incorporate Google Assistant into their products.

"We expect a further deluge of pseudo-artificial intelligence devices at CES 2018, continuing the theme of faintly ridiculous products such as the "intelligent" toothbrush that emerged at last year's show", he added. These systems will get more useful as manufacturers design new ways to control their products with voice commands.

A few auto companies took the opportunity to show us what future drivetrain technology they are working on. Steve Koenig, senior director of market research at CES organizer Consumer Technology Association, says that as more people use these AI systems, companies have more data to better train the machines.

This year's CES starts on Tuesday January 9th at 6pm (UK time) and finishes on Friday January 12th. The Samsung Galaxy X could be the first smartphone to feature a truly bendable touchscreen - technology Samsung previewed at a previous Consumer Electronics Show.

"OLED is clearly a next-generation technology leader".

And while a few companies like Apple and Fitbit are now dominant in wearable devices, many startups are eager to challenge them with new approaches for tracking fitness and medical issues.

One of the stars of the show is this little robot. "The most popular exhibits, however, are from our companies like Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics that display the most advanced technologies".

The sports zone will bring together trends that have appeared at CES over the years: wearables, augmented reality, sensors and apps for quantifying physical activity.
