Princess Diana and Dodi Al Fayed's Statue to Move From Harrods

Princess Diana and Dodi Al Fayed's Statue to Move From Harrods

Iconic British department store Harrods is reportedly planning to remove a memorial to Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed that's been in place for 13 years.

It is entitled Innocent Victims, a reference to Mr Al Fayed's belief - unsupported by any evidence, according to the inquest - that the couple were murdered on the orders of the Duke of Edinburgh.

"We are very proud to have played our part in honoring the life of Diana, Princess of Wales, and Dodi Al-Fayed at Harrods", Worde commented in a statement he issued.

In 2000, the store had lost the title of a British royal family supplier, which is accused by Mohammed Al-Fayed regularly of instigating the death of the couple.

He maintains their deaths in a Paris auto crash in 1997 were not an accident.

It had previously held continuous royal warrants since 1913. Mr Fayed sold the store for £1.5 billion ($2.6 billion) in 2010.

This news follows Prince William and Prince Harry's own announcement that have asked renowned artist Ian Rank-Broadley to create the memorial statue of their mother, to be displayed at Kensington Palace.

Mr Ward said "the time was right" to take down the shrine.

The store said that following the announcement a year ago that the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry had commissioned a new sculpture to commemorate their mother, to be erected at Kensington Palace, the time was right to return the statue to the Egyptian tycoon.

What do you think about Harrods removing the tribute that attracts thousands of tourists every year?

The bronze figure shows the couple, who died in a auto crash in Paris in 1997, holding hands underneath a bird with its wings outstretched. "This has allowed millions of people to pay tribute to these two great people and remember them".
