Rep. Schiff: Would Be Better if Trump Watched Cartoons

President Donald Trump on Wednesday declined to commit to being interviewed by the special counsel investigating whether his campaign colluded with Russian Federation to sway the 2016 election, backing off a promise he made a year ago to talk to Robert Mueller under oath.

That debate spilled into the open last week, when lawyers for Paul Manafort filed a lawsuit in US federal court directly challenging Mr. Mueller's legal authority to investigate and indict the former Trump campaign manager on pre-2016 money laundering charges.

Asked about special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into meddling in the 2016 election, Trump insisted there was "no collusion", invoking Clinton's July 2016 interview with the FBI, calling it "a very serious breach".

Trump said "we'll see what happens" when asked if he would provide an interview to Mueller's team.

The president described the Russian investigation as a "phoney cloud" that has hurt the government and as a "Democrat hoax" brought up as an excuse for losing an election the party should have won because they have "such a tremendous advantage in the electoral college". Because of the secrecy surrounding grand jury investigations, we don't know exactly what Mueller has found. Trump may repeat this denial as frequently as he likes (as he did again Wednesday on Twitter), but the grand jury is still out on the question of collusion (or, more accurately, criminal conspiracy).

Trump had previously said he would be "100 percent" willing to meet Mueller, a former Federal Bureau of Investigation director. He said he'd be "glad to" speak to Mueller about it. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., for releasing a transcript that was highly critical of Trump, and he demanded that Republicans "finally take control" of the probes.

Special counsel Robert Mueller's office has reportedly yet to request an interview with Vice President Mike Pence, but the number two in the nation's command would be open to a sit-down.

"There was no collusion, everybody including the Dems knows there was no collusion, & yet on and on it goes", he tweeted.

At the Trump Tower meeting, several Trump campaign officials met with Russian operatives under the impression that they might receive damaging information about the Democratic presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton.

"Our position has always been that if asked we'll cooperate", this person said.

Trump's meetings Wednesday with Solberg also shined a spotlight on his calls for North Atlantic Treaty Organisation members to increase their defense spending.

Ms Feinstein told reporters that she didn't tell Mr Grassley beforehand, and "I owe him an apology and I will give him an apology as soon as I see him".

The cost of the aircraft has generated strong head winds of criticism, particularly from Trump, who has previously claimed to have directly helped saved billions on the jet.

Feinstein also sits on the Senate intelligence committee, which is conducting its own investigation into the Russian interference and whether Trump's campaign was in any way involved.

Facing a rightwing backlash over his apparent willingness to accept a path to citizenship for Dreamers, Trump denied if he might sign an immigration deal that does not include funding for a border wall.

"In November, we started delivering the first F-52s and F-35 fighter jets", Trump said.
