Sandberg, Dorsey to leave the Disney board

Following their respective companies' push into generation of video content on their platforms, Facebook Chief Operating Officer (COO) Sheryl Sandberg and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey are leaving Walt Disney's board, a regulatory filing has revealed.

"Given our evolving businesses and the businesses of Ms. Sandberg and Mr. Dorsey are in, it has become increasingly hard for them to avoid conflicts relating to Boad matters, and they are not standing for re-election", Disney said in a statement.

Neither has addressed their departure.

Twitter and Facebook executives are running into some problems with Disney.

Dorsey's company announced a year ago video streaming partnerships with 16 media companies, which included some of Disney's competitors.

Facebook launched its "Watch" tab earlier this year to show live and recorded video, including a weekly Major League Baseball game.

The report said apart from its plans to create its own video streaming service in 2019 that is dedicated to movies and television shows, Disney also meant to debut an ESPN Plus streaming service this year. Facebook live-streamed 15 college-football games in 2017 in a deal with Stadium, a digital sports broadcaster.

Sandberg and Dorsey's exit won't be the only change to Disney's board.

Other directors who would not stand for re-election are Orin Smith, the 75-year-old lead independent director, and Robert Matschullat, 70, because of term and age limits for board members.

Dorsey had been on the board since 2013 and Sandberg has served since 2010.
