Saudi warplane crashes in Yemen: Coalition

Colonel Turki al-Maliki, the spokesperson of the Arab coalition forces said that the air defense forces of the coalition spotted at 7:56 am on Friday morning, the launch of a ballistic missile from within the Yemeni territory in the direction of Najran in Saudi Arabia. The harbor is also one of a string shipping entry points in the vital route connecting the Middle East with Europe through the Suez Canal.

Saudi air defence forces shot down a ballistic missile fired by Yemen's Houthi rebels at the southern province of Najran on Thursday evening.

"There is no doubt that Hodeidah Port has now become a starting point for terrorist operations to threaten the maritime navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab strait", Maliki said.

"Tariq Saleh visited the home of a local tribal leader while members of the UAE-backed force secured the residence", the source said.

United Nations officials have been trying to get the two sides back to the negotiating table after talks collapsed 2016.

The coalition, which is allied with an internationally recognized government, has been at war with the Iran-supported rebels since March 2015.

More than 10,000 people have been killed in the Yemen conflict, millions have been displaced and are at risk of acute hunger and malnutrition and one million have been infected with cholera.

Long-time enemies, former president Ali Abdullah Saleh and the Houthis joined ranks in 2014, driving Yemen's Saudi-backed government from the capital and setting up a parallel state.

"The Houthi who decimated crops and seeds, destroyed Yemen, betrayed his ally and partner, is now threatening the global navigation; we are facing a terrorist gang that the end of its existence in Yemen is nigh", Gargash said.
