Shaw: Mourinho gave me a boost

Following Jose Mourinho's arrival at Old Trafford in the summer of 2016, Shaw struggled to carve out any sort of regular playing time for himself with United, with Mourinho having publicly scolded the talented youngster for his attitude last season.

UNITED boss Jose Mourinho was brilliantly trolled by Italian media and fell for the trick hook, line and sinker. He was already improving and playing well when I start playing him after that long spell without minutes.

United's new deal for Mourinho could see him stay at the club for five years, with the club set to back him in the coming transfer windows to return to the top of the Premier League.

Ashley Young is available for Saturday's Premier League trip to Burnley after serving a three-game suspension and the boss faces a tough decision over who to play in the position at Turf Moor as he feels the in-form Shaw has played "very well" during his string of starts.

But Mourinho, who has been linked with a move for Tottenham's Danny Rose, says the England worldwide is in such good form that there are few better in his position.

Luke Shaw and Jose Mourinho have not always had a good relationship. Physically much better, mentally much stronger, tactically understanding the game much better and what we need in different phases and circumstances.

"I'm really happy and [looking at the transfer market], I can say that in this moment I don't see many left-backs better than this Luke Shaw".

Ahead of the weekend's action, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Eric Bailly remain sidelined for United, while Daley Blind will also miss the fixture with a "small problem".

They now sit second in the table, 12 points behind leaders Manchester City. Sources have told ESPN FC that he is likely to sign a deal through 2021 with the option of another season. Six.
