Spurs' Kawhi Leonard out indefinitely to continue rehab on injured quad

When asked about it, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich ruled out the possibility of Kawhi Leonard missing the rest of the season due to his quadriceps injury. He finished third in MVP voting last season, behind only Russell Westbrook and James Harden, by averaging 25.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists.

The Spurs (29-16) face the Nets on Wednesday in Brooklyn without Leonard, who has returned to Texas. He did not make his season debut until December 12 and he has yet to play in more than two consecutive games.

"It was one of those things that we got told this morning and it was like, we can't do anything about it, we can't control it, so this is the group", Mills said. "But if we're going to err, we're going to do it on the side of health and being wise".

The last time the Nets played, they were beaten by the New York Knicks, 119-104.

So far this season, Leonard has appeared in just nine games for the Spurs, but his minutes were restricted.

Nets: Brooklyn has lost five straight at home. He also was sidelined briefly because of a shoulder injury.

PLAYER ALTERCATIONS: "NBA fights are the silliest, namby-pambiest things I've ever seen in my life".

RESPONDING TO REFEREES: "It evens out, it's just that we're all so prejudice it's ridiculous". I'd never want to say it's tomorrow or it's three days or it's five days or whatever it may be, but at the same time he's anxious about getting out there and I know his teammates want to get him out there as well.

"You guys had a lot of different stories about what happened, none of them which were true", Ariza said Wednesday in Houston, before the league announced the suspensions.

After falling behind by as many as 17 points, Brooklyn came to within three points of the lead in the fourth quarter powered by Joe Harris' 18 points on the night. "This is the best approach for the next steps in his return to play", Spurs general manager RC Buford said, according to ESPN.
