Trump Accuses Democrat Of Undermining Trust On Immigration

President Donald Trump says in the wake of his recent comments about Haiti and African countries that "I'm not a racist". Trump's claim was backed up by a number of senior Republican lawmakers who reportedly said they do not remember the POTUs making the remark.

"I stand behind every word that I said", Durbin said on Monday. They said Trump expressed a preference for immigrants from countries like Norway, which is overwhelmingly white. "One person who attended the meeting told aides they heard the latter expletive, while others recall the president saying the more widely reported "(expletive removed)", according to a person briefed on the meeting but not authorized to speak publicly about private conversations.

On Friday, Mr Durbin said: "I can not believe that in the history of the White House, in that Oval Office, any president has ever spoken the words that I personally heard our president speak yesterday".

World leaders have denounced Trump's comments as racist.

Brought to the U.S. illegally as children and granted temporary status under former president Barack Obama, Trump ended the programme for so-called "Dreamers" in September.

Over the weekend, Republican Sens.

The reverberations kept coming Monday. "The President and all those attending the meeting know what I said and how I feel".

He added, "We got to find a way to work on this man's heart".

Trump has not clarified to aides what he said, but told reporters Sunday night in Florida that comments attributed to him "weren't made".

On Monday, two senators who said he did indeed use the disparaging remark stood by their account of what took place.

A confidant of Trump's told The Associated Press that the president spent Thursday evening calling friends and outside advisers to judge their reaction to his remarks.

Trump said in a Tweet, "The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used". He said Trump used the most vulgar term "more than once".

Lindsey Graham of SC said Trump had drastically changed his tune on a compromise immigration bill just before the Thursday meeting. "Never said 'take them out.' Made up by Dems".

Mr. Trump was meeting with lawmakers about a potential deal on immigration last week when he questioned why the USA should admit more people from Africa and Haiti.

Instead, Trump, who promised to build a southern border wall - and have Mexico pay for it - said he wanted $20 billion in one appropriation so he would not have to come back to Congress "and fight next year for this", Durbin said. Trump wrote, "I have a wonderful relationship with Haitians".

"He said, 'Put me down for wanting more Europeans to come to this country".

There were reports that claim Trump has suggested he preferred that the U.S. will take in migrants from countries like Norway instead of citizens of countries hit by natural disasters, epidemics or war.

Word of Trump's comments threatened to upend delicate negotiations over resolving the status of the hundreds of thousands of immigrants who were brought to the country illegally as children. The Obama-era program shields these individuals, commonly referred to as "Dreamers", from deportation.
