What You Need To Know About The Lions (Likely) New Head Coach

It may surprise some that the grizzly-looking Patricia also has quite the academic background- he received a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering (a field concerned with the development of aircraft and spacecraft) from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1996. If he decides to go with the Cardinals, the Giants could be in a tough spot.

New England Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia has been linked to both teams' head-coaching vacancies the past few weeks, and it appears the pendulum has swung back to its origin. Wilks impressed the Giants' owners despite not having a ton of experience as a coordinator or head coach (This season is Wilks' first as defensive coordinator).

The Giants' options include New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur.

Of the six head-coaching positions to come open this hiring cycle, just two have been filled so far. Trust me, a lot of people are baffled by this. Three years ago, Dan Quinn was hired as Atlanta's head coach while he was the Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator.

Patricia is considered the favorite to become the 18th head coach in franchise history.

A proven defensive signal caller, able to make adjustments mid-game, combined with a history of a lineman is exactly what the New York Giants desperately need. If that's the case, Patricia and his agent have to love all the talk of two teams wanting him. Bottom line is this would be a second time to fail to get in the batter's box to even take a shot at landing the quarterback guru, and history would say there won't be a third time to do so.

"It doesn't affect me either way, honestly", Stafford said when asked about a potential role in the search process. I'd call it now or never, as I suspect McDaniels' second go-around as an National Football League head coach will be robust. That would be worth exploring.
