Wilder to defend title against Ortiz on March 3

Deontay Wilder will attempt to defend his WBC heavyweight world title for a seventh time when taking on Luis Ortiz on March 3. The card, presented by Premier Boxing Champions, will be produced by Showtime and could end up airing on CBS.

When the original fight with 38-year-old Ortiz was postponed, Wilder then defended his WBC title against fellow American Bermane Stirmane and won with a first-round knockout.

He and Ortiz were initially supposed to fight on that card, but the Cuban was scratched because of a positive drug test. But the WBC ruled in December that he acted in good faith and proved his innocence.

After returning with a second-round knockout of Daniel Martz in December, the Cuban has secured a long-awaited meeting with Wilder in NY. Be ready, I don't want no excuses. "You messed this opportunity up".

The victor of the contest could very well land themselves an opportunity against the victor of Anthony Joshua v Joseph Parker in a contest for all the belts available in the heavyweight division, with the proposed clash anticipated set for the March 31st in Cardiff.

Wilder is also unbeaten in the division after 39 wins and will go into the fight with confidence following a crushing first round defeat of Bermane Stiverne.
