World Souring World Views of Trump Open Doors for China and Russian Federation

After Barack Obama spent eight years representing the United States with class and dignity, Donald Trump has dragged the American presidency into the gutter at lightspeed.

In Asia, approval dropped to 30%, tying the previous low that was measured during the Bush administration.

Despite Trump paying nearly no attention to Africa, America's backing in the continent has stayed strong, with 51% supporting American leadership, compared to 20% disapproving. Trump approval ratings with Black Americans has doubled.

In some United States security allies in Asia - New Zealand, Australia and Singapore - the USA approval ratings dropped to new record lows in 2017, a decline of more than 30 points.

In 65 countries, approval of US leadership dipped more than 10 points since the last time Gallup conducted the same poll. Some 58% of people now disapprove of U.S. leadership there. "With its stable approval rating of 41 percent, Germany has replaced the U.S.as the top-rated global power in the world".

According to recent polls, USA voter confidence in his temperament, leadership strength and ability to unite Americans have fallen, at times sharply, since a year ago. Japan, South Korea and the Philippines also saw double-digit declines. It signifies not only the lowest approval rating since Gallup began asking in 2007, but the largest single percentage drop in the history of the poll.

In its analysis, the Gallup report, released just days before President Donald Trump embarks on a trip to Davos, Switzerland, for the World Economic Forum, criticized Trump for keeping his campaign promise to put "America First" in his foreign policy.

The Trump administration has abandoned the trade agreement of Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and Paris climate change accord.

The survey found wall-to-wall declines throughout the Americas - with the biggest shift in the next-door neighbour to the north.

For the better part of the last two and a half years, many Americans questioned the physical and mental health of Donald Trump. While the survey was taken before Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital, he had earlier announced his intention to do so.

Deep in the "Bible Belt" - where conservative Christian values tend to hold sway over social and political life, supporters of the president are generally positive about his performance and most have adopted at least one of his stances.

The results were no fluke, either, noted Gallup.

By comparison, in Obama's a year ago in office the United States led Germany by seven points, China by 17 points and Russian Federation by 22 points, according to Gallup.
