Kim Jong Un eager to mend ties with S.Korea

Pence, who did not stand for the combined Korean teams anthem during the opening ceremony, has used his attendance at the games to continue the Trump administration's anti-North Korea campaign.

North Korea's leader has said he wants to boost the "warm climate of reconciliation and dialogue" with South Korea after his high-level delegation returned from a visit to the South.

North Korea's main economic lifeline China, believed to hold some degree of influence over it, has also called on Washington and Pyongyang to engage in dialogue for the sake of peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region. International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach said as much to the team after their first game, saying "You're part of something bigger".

It was reported by KCNA that Kim Jong-un expressed "satisfaction" over their visit upon receiving the delegation's report, and gave his gratitude for "sincere and very impressive efforts" made by South Korea as they prioritized the visit of the members of the North Korea side who took part in the Winter Olympics.

So Moon agreed with United States vice president Mike Pence on the "maximum sanctions and pressure" approach.

"That's why you have to have talks", the vice president said.

"I have heard a lot of support from other members just saying this is symbolic, this is what the Olympics is all about", she said.

"I was cringing at Kim Jong Un's sister at the Olympics and how not only she was received, but also how she was treated by the at best naïve media and the coverage of her", she said.

Kim Yo Jong delivered a letter from her brother at a visit to the South's presidential Blue House on Saturday, asking Moon to visit "at his earliest convenience" to which Moon replied both Koreas should try to make conditions that would make the visit possible.

"The frame for the still-nascent diplomatic path forward is this: The United States and its allies will not stop imposing steep and escalating costs on the Kim Jong-un regime until it takes clear steps toward denuclearization".

But in the interim, the US and allies would continue to pressure North Korea on denuclearization.

A senior military official stationed at the border between North and South Korea told Reuters North Korea has lowered the volume of its border propaganda broadcasts since the Olympics' opening ceremony on February 9. Pence said that the decision to halt the military exercises that are usually carried out by the USA military in the Korean peninsula should not be confused to mean that Pyongyang was winning or that the U.S. was afraid of Kim. Such a meeting would mark the first inter-Korea summit since 2007.
