Larry Fitzgerald tells Cardinals he will return next season

Fitzgerald turns 35 in August and next season will be his 15th in the NFL.

Fitzgerald came to Arizona in the 2004 NFL Draft as the third overall pick out of the University of Pittsburgh.

The Arizona Cardinals lost quarterback Carson Palmer and head coach Bruce Arians to retirement, but veteran receiver Larry Fitzgerald has at least one more season in him.

Wilks shared the news in an interview with the "Doug and Wolf" show on KTAR Thursday morning.

The uncertainty of the team, which will have a new head coach, offensive and defensive coordinators, and starting quarterback, has also played a factor in Fitzgerald taking time to contemplate his future.

"I don't know", he said when asked about possible retirement in December, per Darren Urban of the team's official site.

Fitzgerald made the decision not knowing who the Cardinals will have at quarterback. He can climb up to No. 2 on the NFL's all-time receptions and receiving yards lists.

Fitzgerald's active consecutive games streak with a catch is at 211 straight, tying him with Gonzalez for second-longest in National Football League history.

Stanton went 79 of 159 for 894 yards in 2017 with six touchdowns and five interceptions. Fitzgerald collected 109 receptions for 1,156 yards - the ninth 1,000-yard effort of his 14-year career - and six touchdowns. He needs 92 catches to overtake Tony Gonzalez, and 390 yards to pass newly-minted Hall-of-Famer Terrell Owens.

"Last night, I was partying myself (with the news)", Wilks said.
