NY Times Abruptly Fires Its New Nazi-Befriending Editorial Board Hire

The New York Times has fired an opinion writer it hired just hours earlier, citing her past tweets. "Based on it, we've chose to go our separate ways." iMediaEthics has written to the Times to ask if the decision to cut ties was made exclusively on her tweets and if the newspaper typically reviews public social media postings before making new hires.

And then reversed the decision Tuesday night after Twitter users showed the writer's tweets using homophobic slurs and bragging about befriending neo-Nazis, the Washington Post reported. She previously called him "an old friend of mine", defending her connection with him while admitting he is "terrible". We expect all of this, across 200-plus nations and uncountable cultures, while also aspiring to privacy, transparency and prosperity.

In a culture which is "aspiring to privacy, transparency and prosperity", they said, "we're excited to have Quinn to help our readers understand what's possible and what's sensible, and where we're all headed".

New York Times editorial page editor James Bennet announced in a tweet that Norton would not be working there after all.

A representative for the Times' provided a statement on Norton's termination to HuffPost.

Bennet said in a statement released by the paper, "Despite our review of Quinn Norton's work and our conversations with her previous employers, this was new information to us".

In 2014, she tweeted: "Today I realised I'd probably make a lot more money being a racist for @nytimes".

By 9 p.m. the same day, Norton said on Twitter that she would no longer be working with the Times, the culmination of several hours of intense criticism directed at her over some of her previous writings on the site. But, Norton on Tuesday evening posted a tweet stating she wouldn't be joining the company. I plan to just be me, and bring my ideas to the table.

"I wish there had been a way, but ultimately, they need to feel safe with how the net will react to their opinion writers". "I'm sorry I can't do the work I wanted to do with them. I'm sorted out for money", she wrote. "And if that doesn't work out, no harm no foul".

Norton has also written about weev.

Norton added: "look, fag, you're going to have to walk a far mile to offend me, and you f**king know that".

She said she's "been a queer activist since 1992", arguing her use of "fag" and "faggot" was because of the community she was trying to "speak to" and commented other tweets were "not my best tweet".
