Shaun White Responds To Sexual Misconduct Allegations

American snowboarder Shaun White has been criticised for dragging the American flag in the snow while celebrating his gold metal victory in the men's half pipe.

After snowboarder Shaun White made history when he won gold at the Pyeongchang Olympics, sexual harassment allegations leveled by his former bandmate, Lena Zawaideh, in 2016 resurfaced.

"I'm sure you can tell by my reactions at the bottom of the pipe, but this meant the world to me, and my family, and my team", said White, who has also won multiple X Games gold medals in snowboarding and skateboarding since turning pro as a 13-year-old.

Attorney Lawrance Bohm of The Bohm Group, who represents White's former bandmember and harassment accuser Lena Zawaideh, said that White's remarks had "minimized the problem of sexual harassment in this country" and "impugn the character" of his client.

Zawaideh, who filed the lawsuit in San Diego County, alleged White sent her images of "naked men with engorged and erect penises and videos of vulgar sex acts". Zawaideh also accused White of grabbing her, attempting to kiss her, and touching himself in front of her.

When the suit was filed, White said Ms Zawaideh's claims were "bogus", and that she was only trying to get money out of him. "And I was so overwhelmed with just wanting to talk about how fantastic today was and share my experience, but yeah", White said. "My friends, you know, love me and vouch for me and I think that stands on its own".

The Pyeongchang Olympics are White's fourth round of games.

In a statement released at the time, Zewaideh said "I am pursuing this case because women should not have to tolerate harassment at work".

"I definitely feel like I'm a much more changed person than I was when I was younger", he said.

White rushed off stage as reporters proceeded to question him about the allegations following the conference.

White has since apologized for his response on the TODAY Show.

According to USA Today, White denied the sexual harassment charges but later conceded that he sent the text messages.

"I'm truly sorry that I chose the word 'gossip, '" White said in an interview on Today. Here's everything you need to know about the Olympic athlete.

"White's public reckoning with his past behaviour amounted to an entire broadcast dedicated to his greatness, one post-event question that he easily brushed away, and two big fat softballs from a friendly Today Show host", Deadspin's Laura Wagna wrote. According to a source speaking with Digital Music News early this morning, sponsors AT&T, GoPro, Inc. and Burton Snowboards and are all putting White "under review" pending fallout from the 2016 allegations. He continued: "I was so overwhelmed with just wanting to talk about how wonderful today was and share my experience".

White later withdrew that request a year ago and an attorney for Zawaideh filed a notice of unconditional settlement in the case and requested the case be dismissed in May 2017, per USA Today. "I'm just truly sorry".
