Winter Olympics 2018: What to watch Wednesday, Feb. 14, in Pyeongchang

All of this with no medal on the line, either.

Wednesday's hockey game was part of what's called the "group stage".

In the 2014 Sochi Games, the Americans lost in heartbreaking fashion.

In fact, it's nearly exactly 20 years to the day since they last lost at the Games - the gold-medal game on February 17, 1998 in Nagano, a 3-1 victory for the Americans in the first-ever women's Olympic women's hockey championship.

"We wait for that moment", captain Marie-Philip Poulin said after the win.

"We've got to bury our chances", Lamoureux-Davidson explained.

Her husband Bob Bellamy adds: "A lot of the Canadian girls they go to the usa colleges so a lot of these girls play together...they're on the same teams together so they know one another really well".

During those days there was no gold medal game, but rather medals were determined by standings.

Team USA features 12 skaters with Minnesota connections, seven of them born and raised in the State of Hockey. The Olympics only raises the stakes. Finland, Switzerland, Sweden and the Olympic Athletes from Russian Federation will duke it out for the other two semifinal spots.

Canada, Sweden and Czechoslovakia all ended up with a 5-2 records, meaning there was a three-way tie for second place. U.S. Coach Robb Stauber and his players tried to steer the conversation elsewhere, but their pursuit of Canada looms over the entire tournament.

Canada celebrates after defeating the United States 2-1 during the Women's Ice Hockey Preliminary Round Group A game on day six of the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games at Kwandong Hockey Centre on February 15, 2018 in Gangneung, South Korea.

"I thought it was a great back-and-forth game and both teams played well". "So excited to play".

The Canadian women's ice hockey team beat the USA 2-1 in a game filled with spectacular saves on Wednesday night. -Canada a "great rivalry".

But judging by the smiles and a roundabout acknowledgement from Agosta, through two games they are starting to look formidable.

"We're going to definitely have some tough decisions", Schuler said Thursday.

"We have a lot speed, talent and skill on this team". Once we hit the ice, it's going to be a fun game. The puck just wouldn't go in for the Americans.

Natalie Spooner, playing in her 100th game for Team Canada, made a no-look backhand pass to set up Agosta at 7:18 of the first period to give the Canadians a 1-0 advantage. "We spent the last four years preparing ourselves for these Games and the number one thing for our team is we focus on ourselves". On Tuesday, Canada came away with an impressive 4-1 win over Finland, the same nation that defeated Canada 4-3 in the preliminary round of the 2017 Women's World Hockey Championship in Plymouth, Michigan.

Shannon Szabados is as familiar with that Canadian attack so the Edmonton native was hardly surprised at what that prolific offence did to Raty and the Finns in another decisive win for the four-time defending champions.

"It's a rivalry", US coach Robb Stauber said of the physical play.

"We're not anxious about it, nope", Stauber said. "We know that opponent very well".
