Apple Maps shows you the nearest bike-sharing stations

An Apple Maps feature went live today with bike-sharing data for more than 175 cities in 36 countries.

The new feature helps Apple Maps keep up with Google Maps - the market-leader in consumer turn-by-turn navigation and mapping software.

However, Apple Maps now only shows contact information and address of the services, whereas other more sophisticated applications offer the number of available bikes as well as empty docks. As the name of bike service is different in every city, so this feature can facilitate you in local bike sharing service.

While this is certainly not new to Apple Maps, the update is seen as a big improvement over existing data. This information could eventually be added, but for now, the bike sharing services' dedicated apps will be necessary.

Ito World has helped out with so many companies to license and normalize bike-sharing data. However, it does not provide information on a startup that's operating a dock-less bike-sharing service.

This new app supports Citi Bike in NYC, Ford GoBike in San Francisco, BIKETOWN in Portland, Santander Cycles in London, bicing in Barcelona, BIXI in Montreal, CityCycle in Brisbane, nextbike in Germany, Austria, Croatia, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and so many others. In fact, the app has now added functionalities which allows you to search for airports and malls, as well as lane guidance, public transits, EV charging stations, and much more.

Apple Maps' bike-sharing data has been expanded. This makes Apple Maps a solid application for guidance around your local area.
