Bears to sign WR Allen Robinson

Since Meredith is a former undrafted free agent, it means the Bears would receive no compensation if Meredith signed an offer sheet elsewhere and they declined to match.

"Da Windy City" reported that the Chicago Bears should aggressively pursue Allen Robinson in free agency. He will now become the top target for 2017 No. 2 overall pick Mitchell Trubisky, who struggled as a rookie with limited weapons at his disposal. The following year saw Robinson catch 73 passes for 883 yards and six scores.

If you're a Bears fan, the Robinson contract should make you very happy. But he enjoyed a breakout season the next year when he led the Bears with 66 catches and 888 receiving yards and tied for the team lead with four touchdown receptions.

Restricted free agents are players with three accrued seasons.

Robinson's 2017 season came to an abrupt end after he suffered a torn ACL in Week 1. Last offseason Pace tried to fill Jeffery's absence by signing Markus Wheaton, Kendall Wright and Victor Cruz in free agency to complement Cameron Meredith and Kevin White.

Trubisky had a solid season for the Bears previous year, completing 59.4 percent of his passes for 2,193 yards and seven touchdowns.

The Bears certainly aren't done adding at receiver.

Just like Meredith and Bellamy, slot corner Bryce Callahan earned an original round tender at $1.907 million from the Bears on Monday.

But the guy who should've been the Bears' first priority is Sammy Watkins because he would've given the Bears something they don't have: A receiver with separation speed. He pointed out that Robinson is still one of the top wide receivers in the league because he can keep the defense guessing.

Bottom line, you don't bring in a player like Robinson to be a decoy.
