Cardinals To Sign Sam Bradford

Cardinals To Sign Sam Bradford

Both the Arizona Cardinals and Minnesota Vikings would have entered the free-agent period on Wednesday at 4:00 pm ET without a quarterback under contract that had made an National Football League start.

The dominoes had been falling and then later Tuesday, it looked like the Cardinals put themselves in position for their short-term quarterback answer. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the deal will be for one year and $20 million, with $15 guaranteed. After missing six games the following year, Bradford was again a 16-game starter in 2012.

Last season, Bradford played in just two games for the Vikings due to injuries in the same knee. It was to the same knee where the quarterback had twice torn his ACL, though tests this time revealed no structural damage. He spent the better part of two months on injured reserve before being activated as Case Keenum's backup during the postseason.

The move to get Bradford is reminiscent of the Cardinals signing Palmer, a former No. 1 overall pick with a fantastic deep ball and a guy with a ton of upside, but someone who was largely cast aside because of injuries. He was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2010. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport also says Bradford has committed to the Cardinals.

"I think it's been really encouraging for me, mentally, to know that I can go back out there and do it", Bradford said after returning to practice in January.

Bradford is set to become a free agent Wednesday at 4:00 PM.

For his career, Bradford has started 80 games with the Vikings, Rams and Philadelphia Eagles. He had a solid season for the 8-8 Vikings, throwing for 3,877 yards, 20 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 71.6 percent of his passes.
