Eagles will host Vikings for Thursday Night Opener of 2018 Season

It is not a game that many associated with the Minnesota Vikings would like to talk about ever again. The reigning Super Bowl champion usually opens the following season at home on NBC on a Thursday. But the Philadelphia Eagles had their own plans. It was easily the Vikings' worst performance of the year.

The 2012 game even came after NY beat the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl, making some wonder if that could swing things to the Philadelphia Eagles this season.

The 126-130 win-loss record for the Eagles opponents doesn't highlight the fact that they will need to handle several talented teams next season. In 2010, the Vikings lost 14-9 at New Orleans after having been defeated by the Saints 31-28 in overtime in the 2009 NFC Championship Game.

When the Eagles did take the field for Super Bowl LII, they outplayed Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, beating them 41-33 at U.S. Bank Stadium. So starting the season on a Thursday for the QB doesn't fare well in his recent history.

It is interesting because this Minnesota Vikings team looks different from the one that the Philadelphia Eagles beat in the playoffs last season. But even if Nick Foles remains under center, the National Football League season should begin with an entertaining game.
