European Union extends sanctions over Ukraine conflict

"There is no fatigue in our support for Ukraine, also because we have seen results", Mogherini said, urging Kyiv to pass strong anti-corruption laws.

While Mogherini was in Kiev on Monday, the European Union announced the extension for another six months of its sanctions against Russian Federation, imposed over the annexation of Crimea and support for rebels in eastern Ukraine.

The International Monetary Fund would like the process overseen by a public council of international experts.

The law was passed on its first reading in March.

Ukraine's Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman said he hopes that an anti-corruption court will be created in the next few months.

"The anti-corruption institutions must be allowed to do their work independently with enough powers and resources to investigate, prosecute and eventually ensure the conviction of those responsible for corruption".

It said the other European Union measures in place in response to the Ukraine crisis included economic sanctions targeting specific sectors of the Russian economy and restrictive measures in response to the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol.

The UK Embassy in Ukraine informed this on its Twitter page.

The IMF has a number of other concerns with the bill in its current form.

Yet Poroshenko told the Financial Times that judges to the court must be appointed by Ukrainians and not foreign experts. The creation of such court will promote investment in Ukraine and further reforms, especially privatization and land reform, she said.
