Hillary Clinton Criticized After Saying Trump Voters Supported a 'Backwards' Agenda

"Part of that is an identification with the Republican Party and a sort of ongoing pressure to vote the way that your husband, your boss, your son, whoever, believes you should".

Democrats are begging former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to stop suggesting that only the most forward-thinking people voted for her failed presidential campaign.

'That's a lot of states, ' the ex-aide added.

Hillary Clinton, on a trip to India, said that white married women were pressured to vote for President Trump by their husbands.

'She's annoying me. She's annoying everyone, as far as I can tell, ' one unnamed 2016 Clinton surrogate told the Hill Newspaper Tuesday. But while Donald Trump came out on top in the election, Hillary Clinton can still draw ire from conservative groups and pundits-as when she recently criticized those who voted for Trump as supporting a backward-looking ideology.

Her aides are suggesting these statements are only hurting the Democratic Party's brand, especially as the party looks ahead to the 2020 presidential election.

A former Obama White House aide said it will help Democrats if Clinton could restrain herself.

She later warned: "If the [Democratic] Party is the party of the heathens, we're going to have Trump for another four years".

Clinton also noted - as she has before - that the forces of Russian interference that led Trump to the Presidency are still at work around the globe, something that she said "represents a clear and present danger to democracy everywhere".

"You didn't like black people getting rights, you don't like women, you know, getting jobs". For months, some Democrats have been arguing that Clinton's sentiments have been counterproductive to the party's rebuilding efforts.

Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown, who is also up for re-election said that he doesn't "really care what she said" and that her words are "not helpful".

Even before she launched her book tour last fall for "What Happened", party strategists have said Clinton should lay low.

"Putting aside how absurd and wrong she is, rhetoric like this is the reason Sen".

At the same time, one thing remained clear to some supporters of the former Democratic nominee. "I think they were expressing their frustration with the status quo". It's an entirely other thing to pull off losing to President Trump.
