Jets to sign Teddy Bridgewater

Jets to sign Teddy Bridgewater

Years have gone by where the New York Jets have lost out on either signing or drafting a franchise quarterback.

The Jets are apparently moving on from their chase of Kirk Cousins, who is signing with the Minnesota Vikings, but Bridgewater is a risk.

At 38, McCown is the veteran quarterback the Jets want mentoring a rookie signal caller and Teddy Bridgewater, who is reportedly working on finalizing a deal with NY.

He spent the past four years with the team, but played just one game over the past two seasons due to injury. Nothing that happens in free agency will preclude them from considering a quarterback with the sixth pick in the draft, a source said.

The leg injury pulled a 180 on Bridgewater's career coming off an 11-win season and playoff appearance with the Vikings.

The move itself is a sensible one that gives the Jets a quarterback who is far from ideal, but who has some traits that any team can work with in building a quality offense.

With Bridgewater signing, the best-remaining bridge quarterback in free agency is AJ McCarron and the one team in desperate need of a starting quarterback is Buffalo. Plenty of teams will look to trade up for a quarterback, including the Buffalo Bills at 12 and the Arizona Cardinals at 15.

UCLA's Josh Rosen, USC's Sam Darnold, Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield and Wyoming's Josh Allen are the top four quarterbacks in the draft.

The 25-year-old was taken with the 32nd overall pick in 2014 and helped lead Minnesota to the playoffs in 2015.
