Malcolm Butler To Sign With Titans

The free agent cornerback is no longer a Patriot, signing a 5-year contract with the Tennessee Titans, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. Butler doesn't appear to have any chance of returning to New England and is one of the top corners available.

With Butler off the team, New England could be looking for his replacement this offseason in either free agency or the draft.

Butler was a 2015 Pro Bowler and won two Super Bowls with the Patriots, most notably Super Bowl XLIX when he intercepted Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson at the goal line to clinch New England's win.

Still, he is only 28 years old and played all 16 games in each of the last three seasons while tallying eight interceptions during that span. Butler joins former Patriots linebacker Mike Vrabel, former Patriots personnel man Jon Robinson and former Patriots cornerback Logan Ryan in Tennessee. This past season was his most uneven since taking over for Darrelle Revis as a starter, but he still played a team-high 97.8 percent of defensive snaps and led all Patriots defenders with 12 pass breakups.

Butler made headlines following Super Bowl LII after he was benched before kickoff. Gilmore's contract was a five-year, $65 million pact with $40 million guaranteed, and after a slow start, he lived up to it with his strong play over the second half of the season.

While there is a lot of stability on the Patriots roster from 2017 to 2018, the few big names that could depart are impact players.

The Patriots are scheduled to visit the Titans this season.
