National Football League free agent rumors: CB Orlando Scandrick signs with Redskins

After spending his first 10 National Football League seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, cornerback Orlando Scandrick is now a member of the Washington Redskins after signing the 31-year-old free agent.

The Cowboys let Barry Church, J.J. Wilcox, Morris Claiborne, and Brandon Carr leave in free agency a year ago, and over the weekend, they designated longtime slot cornerback Orlando Scandrick for a post-June 1 release.

Scandrick agreed to the deal just two days after being released by the Dallas Cowboys, one of Washington's NFC East rivals. The move will save the team $3 million.

Prior to spending the 2015 season on Injured Reserve, Scandrick's two best statistical seasons came during the 2013 and 2014 seasons, totaling 109 tackles along with 21 passes defensed, four interceptions and three fumbles forced.

Staying on the field proved to be an issue, however. In '15, he missed the entire season with a torn ACL and MCL.

The 31-year-old Scandrick played 11 games in 2017, all as a starter, but back injuries limited his playing time.

With Washington, Scandrick will compete to start outside opposite Josh Norman. Scandrick also likely would play inside versus slot receivers when needed. If he can stay on the field, the Redskins will get a chance to see if he has anything left in the tank.
