Nicolas Cage is Superman in Teen Titans GO! to the Movies

But this week, it was announced that the 54-year-old actor will finally be able to cross something off his bucket list: He finally gets to play Superman. Two decades ago, Cage was even lined up to star in Tim Burton's Superman Lives movie, before the project ultimately fell apart.

Say what you will of the cartoon series, Teen Titans Go!, which aired April 23, 2013 on Cartoon Network as part of the DC Nation block and is now airing its fourth season.

Between this and Mandy, I couldn't be happier for him. Teen Titans GO! is a super goofy show, so hopefully they let Cage get weird with it. Existing in the same continuity as their insane yet still active show on Cartoon Network, the Teen Titans find out that other DC superheroes seem to have films produced, so they seek out the ideal director for their debut on the big screen, but an old enemy has other ideas planned for them.

Teen Titans Go! To the Movies hits theaters on July 27. Given the nature of the source material, Cage's Superman won't be the hero as he appears in DC's comic book universe. Does being a superhero make you any better at video games?

Cage is a self-proclaimed Superman obsessive.

Cage is a big-time Superman fan.

Maybe the Teen Titans GO! crew will be tasked with stealing the Declaration of Independence.

Other Teen Titans Go to the Movies cast members include Greg Cipes as Beast Boy, Scott Menville as Robin, Khary Payton as Cyborg, Tara Strong as Raven, Hynden Walch as Starfire, Will Arnett as Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke, Kristen Bell as Jade Wilson, and James Corden as everyone's favorite character, Balloon Man. Speaking to USA Today, the film's executive producer Sam Register described the "great responsibility" the team felt when filling out their cameo cast. But de facto leader Robin is determined to remedy the situation, and be seen as a star instead of a sidekick. With a few madcap ideas and a song in their heart, the Teen Titans head to Tinsel Town, certain to pull off their dream.
