NPHS Student's Response to After School Walk-out Plan at NPHS

From Maine to Hawaii, students planned to walk out of school Wednesday to protest gun violence in the biggest demonstration yet of the student activism that has emerged in response to last month's massacre of 17 people at Florida's Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

Thousands of students across the country walked out of their schools for 17 minutes on Wednesday. The Parkland students conceived of the nationwide school walkout and numerous school's students have become some of the nation's most eloquent gun-control advocates.

Like Tinker, the student walkouts today are a form of political expression and, in particular, dissenting political expression because the students object to current gun laws. The objective that has been recognized by our students as well as students nationwide is to demonstrate to congress that America's youth holds a passion in our hearts for preventing mass gun violence and that we as a society are calling into question the current policy on weapons in America.

Parents, students and even school officials have been waiting for this day with anticipation and wondering: Can students be punished for walking out? "It's not just about guns, it's about people's lives, little kids' lives, that are being compromised for the sake of the second amendment.more has to be done to ensure that guns don't fall into the wrong hands and that people cant use bulk ammunition to commit acts of violence against students".

Several schools in the Triangle took part in the walkout.

At least 3,000 schools have organized rallies, protests or other memorials to the Parkland victims.

.

"Any real solutions to address gun violence must include acknowledgment of the unique characteristics and needs of urban communities". "Here, schools are among the safest places in Springfield for young people, a city with three of the poorest zip codes in MA and nine of the state's poorest schools".

"When you think of younger students like elementary students, there's a lot that can be shared about caring, compassion and how to be a good friend", said Cohen.

Smith & Wesson did not respond to an inquiry from the News Service on Tuesday morning. This makes the walkout obsolete, as school is dismissed at 2:40. The group urged students to leave class at 10 a.m. local time for 17 minutes - one minute for each victim in the Florida shooting.

In those four weeks following the tragedy, students in Arizona have already organized walkouts. Sebold said she did not receive any pushback from students or parents. David Linsky and Marjorie Decker, which would each establish "extreme risk protective orders" through which courts could prohibit a person from owning a gun for one year in certain circumstances, including threats of violence.

Organizers said almost 3,000 walkouts are set in the biggest demonstration yet of the student activism that has emerged following the massacre of 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

Numerous students learned about the shooting in Parkland through social media. "In the past year, I felt a very dramatic shift in the sense of fear", she said. Each minute will honor the victims killed in the incident at Stoneman Douglass High School.

Apex Friendship High School was one of the schools participating.
