RJD Surges Ahead in Araria & Jehanabad, BJP Leads in Bhabua

The voting for bypolls in the Phulpur and Gorakhpur Lok Sabha seats of Uttar Pradesh and that for Araria Lok Sabha seat, and Jehanabad and Bhabhua assembly constituencies in Bihar were held on March 11, 2018. After the by-election for three seats in Bihar, the preparations to elect candidates for the vacant seat has been completed in Araria.

After eighth round of counting, BJP is leading BJP leading in Bhabua with 19,738 votes and RJD is leading in Jehanabad after tenth round of counting with 29,551 votes. BJP is now leading in Bhabua by 2,528 votes.

This is the first electoral battle in the state since Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who also heads the JD (U), walked out of the alliance with the RJD and the Congress and joined the BJP-led NDA a year ago. While the bypoll in Araria is being viewed as a test for the ruling JD (U)-BJP combine as well as the Opposition RJD-Congress alliance ahead of the big battle in the general elections due next year, the parties are looking forward to winning the Assembly seats ahead of the crucial Rajya Sabha polls. Final result is expect by afternoon.

Now BJP is leading with 23,640 votes. The RJD has fielded Mundrika Yadavs son Kumar Krishna Mohan alias Uday Yadav from Jehanabad.

A total of 12 candidates are in contention at Jehanabad seat. In the Bhabua and Jehanabad Assembly constituencies in Bihar, where bypolls were also held, the voter turnout was 54.03 per cent and 50.06 per cent respectively, Bihar's Chief Electoral Officer Ajay V Nayak said.

Bihar, where votes are being counted for one Lok Sabha constituency and two Lok Sabha seats, seems headed for a status quo.

Now RJD is leading with 1,95,527 votes while BJP trails with 1,95,072 votes.
