Russian exile Nikolai Glushkov found dead in London

London police said its Counter Terrorism Command is leading the investigation "as a precaution because of associations that the man is believed to have had". Kudryavtsev declined to comment further.

British police said the unexplained death of a man in London was not linked to the attempted murder of a former Russian double agent in the southern English city of Salisbury.

Metropolitan Police confirmed a man in his 60s was found at a home in Clarence Avenue, New Malden, on Monday and that the cause of his death is unexplained. In 1999, Glushkov was charged with money laundering and fraud after Berezovsky fell out with Russian President Vladimir Putin and fled to Britain. Whilst we believe we know the identity of the deceased, formal identification is yet to take place.

Glushkov said: "You have the deaths of Boris and Badri over a short period of time. If there is a change in the status of the investigation, an update will be provided", the Met said.

The death is believed to be of Nikolai Glushkov, who was convicted of fraud and money-laundering in Russian Federation and served five years in prison before being released and fleeing to the UK.

Mr Berezovsky was also a friend of Russian dissident Alexander Litvinenko, who was poisoned with radioactive polonium-210 in London in 2006.

Mr Berezovsky was himself found dead on a bathroom floor at his home in southern England in 2013 with a scarf around his neck.

Glushkov, who worked for Berezovsky's companies Aeroflot and AvtoVAZ, was discovered by his daughter Natalya at his house in New Malden in southwest London on Monday, the reports said.

Berezovsky is one of 14 Russians whom U.S. intelligence services believe were assassinated in the United Kingdom, according to an investigation by BuzzFeed News. In March 2017, Moscow's Savelovsky District Court handed him a second eight-year sentence in absentia for the embezzlement of Aeroflot's funds.
