Trump banned from violent computer games

Amid ongoing tensions over the issue of immigration, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders expressed optimism about President Donald Trump's trip to Southern California next week.

"During today's meeting, the group spoke with the President about the effect that violent video games have on our youth, especially young males. The President acknowledged some studies have indicated there is a correlation between video game violence and real violence".

After criticizing video games in the wake of a school shooting in Florida last month, U.S. President Donald Trump will meet with industry executives on Thursday to discuss what the president believes is a link between the games and violent acts.

This was the first time the Parents Television Council was invited to participate in a White House meeting on this issue, Henson told TechNewsWorld, adding that she hoped the discussion would expand the debate to include the impact of violence in all forms of entertainment - not only video games, but also movies and television.

While anti-video game proponents were happy to talk about the meeting, the ESA opted to stick to a rote statement regarding the discussion. And that there are studies that prove there isn't a correlation between gun violence and gaming.

Attendees offered opposing views after the meeting.

"Video games are enjoyed around the world and numerous authorities and reputable scientific studies have found no connection between games and real-life violence", the ESA said in a statement.

"While the clips were playing, [Trump] was pointing out how violent those scenes were", meeting attendee and Parents Television Council program director Melissa Henson said in a conference call.

"I mean seriously a globalist, there's no question", Trump said.

Still, she was pleased that this meeting included the voices of parents.

Other lawmakers who attended the meeting disagreed with the President's takeaway on the science as well. Sen.

Trump, a Republican, cited the influence of video games after a 19-year-old gunman was accused of killing 17 people at a high school in Parkland, Florida and injuring more than a dozen others. After weeks of public deliberation including expressing support for some gun control measures Trump has not yet outlined what he would like to see in legislation. Luckily, both movies and games already have restrictive rating systems. Said footage is embedded below, having been uploaded to the White House YouTube account, but left unlisted. No votes have been scheduled yet in the Senate on a pending background checks bill, but the House has said it will consider school safety legislation next week. Such allegations were robustly defended by the video game representatives.

Representing the video game industry were the heads of Take-Two (Strauss Zelnick), Bethesda/Zenimax (Robert Altman), the Entertainment Software Association (Michael Gallagher), and the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (Patricia Vance).

A day out from the meeting, which was closed to media, it's doesn't appear there's any legislation immediately forthcoming that would affect the way studios create and market violent games.

The link between violent video games and violent children is not a new topic.
